Events Make a Difference – November 2022

After many months of a quiet calendar, the last quarter of 2022 has rushed by with a chock-a-block schedule of fun, exciting and memorable events that have made a significant impact for Knysna Sedgefield Hospice. November has been the pinnacle of this new season for us with successful events just about every week!

Firstly, and more importantly, we must acknowledge and thank those that make these events possible! From our dedicated Events Team to the staff and sponsors that support all aspects of every event, we would like to say THANK YOU! The awareness, community building and fundraising that events like these afford our organisation cannot be ignored. Events are CRUCIAL for our budget, our reach AND our impact – so to all involved, we are so grateful!

And of course, to those who attended the many hours of joy-filled events we’ve had – THANK YOU! No event is a success without YOU – thanks for using your resources, time and company to make each event one worth celebrating.

Here’s a look at November’s Happenings:

Leisure Isle Festival

Our town came together with tremendous success at the beginning of November. The Leisure Isle Festival was a truly amazing 2 days of supporting local community. A percentage of turnover from the market is given to local charities – which is generous, impressive and hugely helpful. The Leisure Isle Festival, facilitated by the Leisure Isle Residents Association, is a genuine craft market that proudly encourages us to “Buy Local.” Our thanks once again to Sotheby’s for so graciously sponsoring this event. Altogether the funds raised, for and by, charities was a record amount at over R300 000! Just WOW!!

Melodrama Sedgefield

Melodrama in Sedgefield hosted a wonderful evening in support of Knysna Sedgefield Hospice – thank you for those that organised, and attended! Our staff were excited to be sponsored their own table at the event – all enjoyed the evening thoroughly.

Swing Sensations

To close out a busy month of fantastic fundraising events we were overjoyed to host Anna Davel for our Swing Sensations evening. This event sold out in a matter of days and was one for the books! Thanks to Sanlam Private Wealth for sponsoring this event and to those that donated and bought auction items, thanks to you too.

Community Wellness Woolies Pop Up

One of our favourite ways to pop up around town is to offer quick wellness checks while you do your shopping! Our team of nurses brought their skills and equipment to do blood pressure and other wellness checks for passers by at Woolworths in Knysna. It’s always great to serve the community! We also had the chance to encourage MySchool Card Holders to sign up and GIVE BACK without it costing them a cent.

YOU can sign up for a MySchool card too and get funds donated to us by shopping at your local stores. Click here for more info.

Day Care Christmas Party

A highlight at the end of a busy month is the chance to spoil our Day Care Patients with our annual Christmas Party! Snacks and gifts were on the agenda and fun was had by all!

This year we are blessed by a local volunteer, who in her time of illness chose to focus on others and make beautiful gifts for us to distribute to our patients at Day Care and wider. Engele Steyn, we are so grateful for the tremendous kindness you have shown – we can’t wait to share the joy and spread some Christmas cheer!
