Hospice is very much of our lives here in Sedgefield. It is a small community and therefore everyone seems to know and somehow get involved in helping others in the community.
We have a full Committee and have regular monthly meetings to discuss how we can help and assist the people in our community who need Hospice care.
Our Hospice Shoppe is a thriving little business generating much needed funds for our Charity.
It opened on the 1st November 2000 with borrowed shop fittings, tables and a cash box.
The first day was so hectic - donations came pouring in, that the volunteers had to close the door at 1 pm and mark all the boxes and bags of donations to get them ready for the next day. Eventually we were able to get our own tables and fittings as well as the shop next door. One shop was just not big enough to operate in.
We have a fairly large dedicated group of ladies that volunteer to come and serve in the shop and have a lot of fun doing it too.
Some visitors to Sedgefield have become "regulars" and during the holidays the shop is always crowded. Our community never fails to support us in the form of donations and purchases. We owe our success mainly to the generosity of Sedgefield people.
The shop hours are 10 am to 1 pm Monday to Thursday; Friday 10 am to 4 pm and Saturdays
10 am to 12 midday. Our customers are mainly the poorer people trying to clothe their families, as well as curious visitors. We must not forget the majority of Sedgefield love to come in and see what has "come in today".
We would welcome any visitors to our Village and especially to our shop. We are sure they will find Sedgefield very different to larger cities and towns.
